Good morning guys, it's another beautiful late summer day here in Bloomington. Today will be the final media session at practice before the Hoosiers open up their 2008 season on Saturday. Yesterday, the team looked pretty good and I wanted to post two quick notables:
- Damarlo Belcher is catching everything. Whether it is up the middle, down the right side, the left side, a post, what have you, the guy is simply catching everything his quarterbacks are throwing. On Tuesday at his weekly press conference, IU coach Bill Lynch said Belcher (a true freshman wide receiver) has a very good chance at earning some playing time along with fellow true freshman receiver Tandon Doss. Belcher is 6-foot-5 and weighs 203 pounds, according to the IU Web site. We're not saying he's the second coming of James Hardy, but he has been impressive throughout fall practice.
- Jerimy Finch was available to the media for the first time since he was reinstated to play by the NCAA. In only saw Finch for two plays on the field, and they were polar opposites of each other. While defending a receiver one-on-one, Finch was worked and burned on a deep fade to the end zone. On the other play, he intercepted a pass off a deflection that fell right into his lap. Over time, co-defensive coordinator Joe Palcic believes Finch will produce more of the latter, rather than the former.
But if you guys have any questions you would like me to throw their way, I'd be more than happy to do that. Also, how do you feel about the addition of Finch and what kind of a role do you see Belcher fitting in with the Hoosiers since they are deep at the skill position?
