Ben and I just got back from the Hoosier Room, site of Rick Greenspan's press conference. We are working to transcribe the most important parts of the press conference and are trying to get the full-length video up as soon as possible.

Obviously it was an important day for IU athletics as evidenced by the people in attendance. President Michael McRobbie was flanked by Greenspan and IU men's basketball coach Tom Crean as the three fielded questions from the media. Football coach Bill Lynch, women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack and several other Hoosier coaches were in attendence.

McRobbie issued an opening statement at the beginning of the press conference. Here is the full text of his statement: "These past several months have obviously been an extraordinary difficult time for all who are associated with Indiana University Athletics and no one has felt this more than Rick Greenspan. It's therefore understandable that Rick has reached the conclusion that he has announced here today to step down as director of athletics. I want to make it clear that this is Rick's decision. Rick and I have had many discussions over the past several months that have always focused on what is best for Indiana University and Indiana University athletics. He has ultimately concluded, and I regrettably agree, that his decision to step down will allow all parties concerned to make a fresh start. For this reason, I have agreed to accept Rick's decision and I do not intend to elaborate any further. I do want to say today that I am extremely disappointed by the new allegation by the NCAA committee of infraction. I believe that the facts and the record no way justify this charge. I will point out that the NCAA's own investigators did not make such a charge following their extensive review of the facts. I want to be clear we will vigorously defend Indiana University against what we believe is an unfair and unjustified charge. I understand this entire matter has been difficult for our fans, our alumni and all those who love Indiana University. I share the concerns and the disappointment that many feel. I want to assure you, though that I am committed to addressing these concerns through the NCAA processes and bringing about a resolution that is fair to the University, to our coaches and to our student athletes. I am confident we will do just that."

Next, Greenspan made a statement where he did show some emotion at parts, especially talking about the relationships he has made here in his four years at IU. He did mention the new allegation, saying that he is aiming to fight it. Greenspan said he did not resign immediately because he wants to finish projects that he has already started, specifically mentioning the new baseball and softball facilities.

Again, we should have video of the presser soon.
