Hey folks,
Had this press release from Shana Daniels, our media contact at IU Athletics, in my inbox this morning, so I thought I'd bring it straight to you. The highlight is that IU will play Saturday, and they will take on either Radford or James Madison, who play this week. The game will be at Assembly Hall.
HOOSIERS EARN SECOND STRAIGHT AT-LARGE BID TO WNIT
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team received an at-large bid as one of 48 teams for the 2008 Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), which was announced on Monday, March 17.
The Hoosiers (18-14) will face the winner of the Radford (23-11)/James Madison (22-9) contest on Saturday, March 22 in Assembly Hall. IU was one of 16 teams that received a first round bye. That list also includes Big Ten foes Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
Indiana continues postseason action after entering the Big Ten Tournament as the six seed. The Hoosiers defeated the 11th-seeded Northwestern Wildcats, 74-52, before falling to third seed and eventual Big Ten Tournament Champion Purdue, 64-54.
The WNIT awards an automatic berth to each of the nation's 31 conferences. The spot goes to the team that finishes the highest in the regular-season conference standings that does not advance to the NCAA Tournament. The remaining spots are filled by teams selected at-large.
Game time will be announced at a later date. For more information on the Hoosiers' third-straight trip to the postseason, visit IUHOOSIERS.com.
