There was a golf outing today for the media with the IU basketball staff. I was put in a group with Kellen Sampson, Andy Romey of www.peegs.com, and Dave Furst of WRTV Channel 6 in Indianapolis.
While the golf was bad (we shot a 3-over in a four man scramble), talking with Kellen was very interesting. He is attending graduate school here in Bloomington and is serving as a graduate assistant for the basketball team. In talking with Kellen, I could tell that he has a high basketball I.Q. and the desire to be a head coach one day. He jokingly said he would consider taking the reins of the IU team once he dad retired if Rick Greenspan offered.
After golf, the media went to Coach Kelvin Sampson's house for lunch. We asked coach if he was excited for Friday night. He responded that he was ready for Saturday when the team starts practicing. You can tell he is getting amped up for the coming season.
