One of the advantages of student media is our proximity to student athletes...

So I'm riding the bus back to my apartment tonight and who should walk on near the union besides one of the newest IU Hoosiers, Jamarcus Ellis. He was carrying a sketch pad of sorts, likely from class, and was sporting a small bandage above his left eye. But don't worry IU fans, I think he'll recover from that injury.

I can verify one fact though. He's tall.

I guess that's one of the benefits of going to a big time university. I can't tell you how many times I've ridden the bus with potential pro athletes - James Hardy, Lee Nguyen, D.J. White. But I had my share of celebrity sightings in high school, too -- the time I took the SAT with Purdue receiver Selwyn Lymon, who lit up Notre Dame's pass D last year. I also took a class in high school with Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard.

All this to say, I think I am only 1 degree of separation away from Michael Jordan.

What about you guys....any big time sports stars that you've bumped into?

Speaking of celebrities, I am sure you all know about our boy Matt Dollinger. You know, he held the basketblog down this summer. Matt's helping defend the rock by columnizing the happenings of the IU football team this summer, and he, Lee Hurwitz and Tom Kirby (sorry folks, no Facebook) launched their own blog called Under the Rock. Be sure and pay them a visit and chat some IU football.

First topic: If I were coach I would call "Long Bomb to Hardy" for every play. Would I cut it as a college coach? Discuss.
