Kelvin Sampson can only hope he gets this kind of production out of D.J. White when he suits up for the Hoosiers this fall.
For the second straight game, White had a game-high 22 points and led the U.S. to victory 84-58 over the Virgin Islands.
White finished 9-of-14 from the field and also pulled down 13 rebounds. The Hoosier forward out rebounded the Virgin Island's frontcourt, 13-12.
U.S. coach Jay Wright described White as the team's "go-to-guy."
"When it's tough and we need a basket, we go to D.J. and he's made the right play every time," he said. "He's doing a good job on the defensive end, too. I'm really impressed with him. He's been a joy to coach."
White and the U.S. will play for fifth place Sunday when they take on Panama. The States lost to Panama on Thursday, 75-67.
"They beat us and knocked us out of medal contention and that's still on our minds," White said. "Even though we didn't get the gold, silver or bronze, we can still leave with our heads high going 3-2 and coming back and winning three straight"
