Indiana football slides to No. 6 in AP Poll after Ohio State loss

Indiana football fell one spot to No. 6 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Sunday.

The shift comes after the Hoosiers’ 19-15 loss to Ohio State on Saturday. The defeat marked Indiana’s first loss since 2024 and head coach Curt Cignetti’s first home loss at the helm.

It was a chaotic weekend in college football across the nation, preventing a larger fall for the Hoosiers. For the first time in college football history, five of the top seven teams lost.

With losses to then-No. 1 University of Georgia and then-No. 2 University of Notre Dame, as well as considering its victory over Indiana, Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 3.

Indiana and Ohio State join four other Big Ten programs in this week’s top 25.

After ranking No. 12 in last week’s poll, UCLA improved to No. 9 on Sunday. The Bruins notched a 17-7 victory over Wisconsin on Saturday.

Iowa and USC both had a Week 7 bye but moved up in the rankings. The Trojans elevated three spots to No. 16, while the Hawkeyes advanced two spots to No. 15.

Northwestern entered the poll at No. 25 last Sunday and improved one ranking to No. 24 this week. The Wildcats defeated Michigan State 24-21 on Saturday.

Following its Week 7 loss, Indiana will look to regroup on the road when it faces Michigan at noon Oct. 24.
