After a season full of traveling across the country, Indiana track and field hosted its only outdoor home meet —the Billy Hayes Invitational—on Friday.
The day started off strong with freshman Rocklan Boisseau winning the men's javelin throw with a mark of 61.35 meters, securing first place by nearly eight meters.
Junior Bridget Beyer competed in the women’s hammer throw, finishing in second place with a throw of 54.23 meters. Sophomore Nikolaos Sidirenios and freshman Michael Neuenroth finished first and second in the men’s competition with throws of 63.03 and 60.72 meters, respectively.
Senior Makayla Hunter placed second in the women’s shot put with a throw of 16.72 meters. This placement marks her fifth shot put competition where she finished in the top two. She also placed fourth in the women’s discus with a throw of 43.23 meters.
Junior Lee Martin added to the Hoosiers’ win total by finishing first in the men's high jump, surpassing 2.03 meters.
Senior Tyler Carrel won the men’s pole vault with a mark of 5.65 meters, ranking seventh in the NCAA for the event. Freshman Lukas Brauc followed in second with a mark of 5.15 meters.
The women’s high jump saw two Hoosiers place in the top three. Sophomore Josie Page and senior Taylor Schoonveld finished second and third with marks of 1.78 and 1.70 meters, respectively.
The Hoosiers won the men’s and women's 400-meter dash events, with junior Ryann Parrish winning the women’s competition, and senior John Colquitt taking home the men’s title.
Indiana had similar success in the 200-meter dash, as freshman Ava Olomajeye won the women’s race in 23.55 seconds, and sophomore Christian Woodson won the men’s race with a time of 20.94 seconds.
The team continued this sweeping trend in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Maddie Rocchio won the women’s competition with a time of 9:49.35 , followed by sophomore Mary Eubank and freshman Alayna Todnem in second and third, respectively, to complete the podium.
Sophomore Tony Provenzano won the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:10.65 seconds, followed by sophomore Dylon Nalley, freshman Alex Bruns and freshman Liam Bauschke in second, third and fourth place.
Sophomore Matt Kim took home the final win of the meet in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 3:43.88, winning by .07 seconds over second place.
Indiana track and field now looks forward to the start of its postseason competitions in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Big Ten Championships held May 15-17.
