Indiana women’s basketball’s Shay Ciezki was named to the All-Big Ten first team by the media and earned second team honors by the coaches, according to a release from the Big Ten on Tuesday. Freshman forward Maya Makaluksy was also selected to the All-Big Ten freshman team by the coaches and the media.
Ciezki averaged 23.2 points per game this season, which ranked second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State sophomore guard Jaloni Cambridge. Ciezki didn’t play in the Hoosiers’ 79-73 loss to USC on Feb. 12 after suffering an injury during a morning shootaround. She started Indiana’s following contest against UCLA on Feb. 15; however, an awkward fall sidelined her after she scored just two points in seven minutes.
Ciezki led the conference in scoring for a majority of the season, but missing those two contests allowed Cambridge to make a late season push for the Big Ten scoring title. Cambridge averaged 26.9 points per game through the Buckeyes’ last eight contests en route to her conference-leading 23.4 points per game this season.
Ciezki’s high-scoring volume came at a highly efficient clip. She shot 53.7% from the field, 46.2% from 3-point range and 90.8% from the free-throw line this season to join the illustrious 50-40-90 club that only former University of California, Berkeley, guard Kristin Iwanaga was a part of in NCAA women’s basketball before this season.
Ciezki became the 34th Hoosier in program history to reach 1,000 points, and she did it in just two seasons with Indiana. The Buffalo, New York, native transferred to Bloomington from Penn State ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Makalusky averaged 9.3 points per game off 44.7% shooting from the field and 37.4% shooting from 3-point range this season. The Fishers, Indiana, native was slotted into the starting lineup after former Hoosier guard Valentyna Kadlecova returned to the Czech Republic to play professional basketball in mid-December.
Indiana earned the No. 13 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which takes place Wednesday through Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Hoosiers will take on No. 12-seeded Nebraska at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
