Indiana track and field traveled to the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center in Indianapolis to compete at the Big Ten Indoor Championship meet from Thursday to Saturday.
At the end of the meet, Indiana’s men’s team finished in 13th place with a total of 23 points. Indiana’s women’s team finished in 12th with 22 points.
Starting Thursday, senior Trelee Banks placed third in the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.70 seconds.
Earlier in the day, sophomore Veronica Hargrave placed first in the qualifying round of the 600-meter run with a time of 1:27.51, qualifying for the final on Saturday. Sophomore Amelia Dodds also qualified for the final with a time of 1:28.75.
In the 5000-meter run, sophomore Tony Provezano placed 10th with a final time of 14:05.04, improving from his 25th place finish at last year’s conference championship race.
The women’s distance medley relay team of sophomore Catie McCabe, junior Kristina Vincic, Hargrave and sophomore Michaela Quinn ran a season best time of 11:34.55, earning them ninth place in their heat and 11th overall.
In the last event Thursday, the men’s distance medley relay team of sophomore Matt Kim, senior Nico Colchico, senior Novo Onovwerosuoke and senior Nolan Satterfield finished eighth in their heat and 10th overall with a time of 9:46.77.
On Friday, sophomore Aliyah Johnson and Banks both qualified for the 60-meter finals with times of 7.38 seconds and 6.64 seconds, respectively.
In the 60-meter hurdles, senior John Colquitt qualified for the Saturday finals, with a time of 7.94 seconds.
Two Hoosiers competed in the 800-meter run and qualified for the finals the following day. Senior Camden Marshall ran 1:48.08, and junior Andrew Mangum finished with a time of 1:47.49.
Sophomore Josie Page scored the first points for the Hoosiers with her sixth-place finish in the high jump, a personal best of 1.81 meters.
On Saturday, Colquitt finished seventh in the men’s 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.07 seconds.
In the 60-meter dash finals, Johnson and Banks both finished 7th in their races with times of 7.41 seconds and 6.67 seconds, respectively.
The pair of Mangum and Marshall competed in the 800-meter final Saturday. Marshall earned fifth with a time of 1:47.75 , while Mangum finished close behind with a time of 1:48.21, netting him sixth.
The Hoosiers picked up a victory in the women’s 600-meter run, with Hargrave winning off a personal best time of 1:27.12. Dodds also ran a personal best time of 1:28.34, placing her fifth out of seven runners.
In the 200-meter final, Banks ran a time of 20.37 seconds, earning him second. It was a personal best for Banks, beating his previous best set in the preliminary rounds.
For the final event of the meet, both the men’s and women’s 4x400 meter relay teams logged personal best times. The women’s team of sophomore Kiera Davis, Hargrave, freshman Ava Olomajeye and Dodds finished with a time of 3:36.95, earning the team sixth. Additionally, the men’s team of Onovwersuoke, Marshall, freshman Kalen Sargent and sophomore Daquan Tate ran an official time of 3:08.80, earning them a finishing position of eighth.
The Hoosiers are set to compete next at the NCAA Indoor Championship March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
