Indiana women’s tennis continued its season on the right foot, winning Saturday’s matches against the University of Cincinnati and Eastern Kentucky University. Indiana jumped out to an early lead in doubles and never looked back, getting key contributions from freshman Alessandra Teodosescu, senior Nicole Teodosescu and freshman Hi’ilani Williams along the way.
Indiana beat Cincinnati 4-1and swept Eastern Kentucky 4-0.
In doubles against Cincinnati, the team of Williams and freshman Alessandra Teodosescu won the number 1 match 6-4. Seniors Nicole Teodosescu and Chase Boyer won the number 3 match 6-1 to clinch the point.
“Winning the doubles point is a great start,” Williams said after the match. “Me and [Alessandra] Teodosescu were finding what was working and it ultimately helped us win 4-1.”
In singles, Alessandra Teodosescu won the number 2 match in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Nicole Teodosescu won the number 4 match in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-2 and Williams won the number 5 match in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-4.
Against Eastern Kentucky, the duo of Williams and Teodosescu took control early in the number 1 doubles match, winning 6-2. Teodosescu and Boyer won the number 3 match 6-2 to clinch the point.
Freshman Ameia Sorey won the number 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Williams dominated the number 5 matchup, winning in straight sets by a tally of 6-0 and 6-1. Williams outscored her opponents 24-7 in singles throughout the day.
“It’s super important to take that lead and continuing to dictate throughout the match and not letting up,” Williams said.
Nicole Teodosescu won the number 3 match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the point and the win.
Indiana is set to take on West Virginia University on Friday and Virginia Tech University on Feb. 8. Both matches will be held at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington.
