Indiana track and field competed in the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend. The Hoosiers tallied 4 personal bests and 1 win.
The Hoosiers were one of 12 teams in the invitational, bringing 15 athletes registered in nine total events.
Indiana last competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 13-14 in Boston.
Sophomore Veronica Hargrave finished the 800-meter race in fifth with a time of 2:01.64, breaking her personal best previously set at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 2.
Junior Andrew Mangum ran 3:58.17 in the 1-mile, setting a new personal best in the event. However, he finished 22nd in a competitive field which had a winning time of 3:50.37.
Indiana looked to improve on this meet in South Bend. On the women’s side, sophomore Lyric Steele ran the 60-meter dash qualifying round in 7.63 seconds. She placed second in the finals with a time of 7.59 seconds, finishing 0.19 seconds behind Wisconsin graduate student Kiley Robbins’ winning time of 7.40.
In the 400-meter run, junior Kristina Vincic placed fourth with a season-best finishing time of 56.29 seconds.
Juniors Kate Henselmeier and Ryann Parrish both competed in the 600 meter, finishing in third and sixth place, respectively. Parrish finished with a time of 1:36.55 seconds, and Henselmeier ran a personal best 1:30.60.
The women’s distance medley relay team made up of sophomore Veronica Hargrave, sophomore Kiera Davis, sophomore Amelia Dodds and junior Lily Myers finished seventh with a season-best time of 11:09.85.
Junior Bridget Beyer won the weight throw with a 17.58-meter throw. Beyer was 0.55 meters ahead of second place Bellarmine University freshman Caysie Brady, who threw 17.03 meters.
On the men’s side, junior Aidan Lord competed in the 1-mile run, finishing 10th with a season-best time of 4:12.99.
In the men’s distance medley relay, junior Andrew Mangum, sophomore Cameron Mullens, senior Nico Colchico and senior Camden Marshall ran a combined time of 9:28.52, finishing ninth ahead of Michigan State and the University of Kentucky.
Sophomore Seth Brosseau finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 17.03 meters, missing out on a top three spot by 0.14 meters.
Indiana will next compete in the indoor Big Ten Championship meet Feb. 26-28 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center in Indianapolis. After that, the Hoosiers are set to compete in the NCAA Championship meet March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
