Indiana men’s basketball head coach Darian DeVries hired Ryan Carr on Monday to become the program’s first executive director of basketball, according to an Indiana Athletics release.

Carr will report directly to DeVries, with his role focusing on roster building and assisting in other areas of the program.

Carr was previously an Indiana manager under former head coach Bob Knight from1992-96 before spending much of his professional career working his way through the Indiana Pacers’ front office. He was a video intern in 1997-98 and was promoted to video coordinator the following season — both under head coach Larry Bird.

Carr then served as an assistant coach at the University of Texas at El Paso from 1999-2003 before returning to the Pacers.

The Sumner, Washington, native has spent the past 23 years with the Pacers in a variety of roles:

  • Senior Vice President of Player Personnel (2024-26)
  • Vice President of Player Personnel (2019-2024)
  • Director of Player Personnel (2018-19)
  • Director of Scouting (2009-2018)
  • Assistant Director of Scouting (2008-09)
  • Scout (2003-08)

Carr now returns to Bloomington with his attention set on building the Hoosiers’ 2026-27 roster, which will likely be heavily composed of transfers for the second consecutive season.
