Police arrested a Bloomington man Jan. 12 on charges of rape against a 13-year-old girl in December.
The victim’s mother reported Yao Amouzou, 21, to the Bloomington Police Department on Dec. 22, a day following the alleged assault, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The report stated Amouzou and his roommate picked up the victim, a 13-year-old girl, and her friend, 15, proposing to take them to dinner. The roommate and the victim’s friend met the previous day and exchanged phone numbers.
Instead of dinner, the four went back to Amouzou’s apartment.
The victim testified Amouzou brought her to his room, separating her from her friend and his roommate. While in Amouzou’s room, he allegedly committed several nonconsensual acts.
The victim bled following the assault and took a photo of blood on her legs, the affidavit said.
The affidavit stated after leaving the bathroom, the victim returned to her friend and requested the two leave the apartment. Amouzou and his roommate drove the two to a McDonald’s restaurant but no one ordered food, police said.
The victim told her mother about the assault upon returning to their care, at which point she was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital and reported the case to police. BPD launched the investigation shortly afterward.
Detectives conducted a search of Amouzou’s apartment and room, using details from the victim’s testimony to help guide them. The affidavit states police found one unwrapped condom with a substance inside, which the victim had specifically noted.
The roommate told detectives in a phone interview that they had brought both girls to their apartment and that Amouzou spent time alone with the victim in his private room, according to the affidavit. The roommate claimed to have questioned Amouzou about his encounter with the victim. Amouzou admitted to having sex with the victim but denied any lack of consent.
Amouzou later admitted in a phone conversation with detectives that he had met both the victim and her friend that night and brought the two to their apartment, police said.
Police arrested Amouzou around noon on Jan. 12 on the east side of Bloomington. He was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of rape, one for the use of physical force and one for ignoring verbal requests to stop.
He was then transported to the Monroe County Jail and left in their custody, where he remains. A pre-trial conference will be held Feb. 17.
