Indiana women’s basketball’s Zania Socka-Nguemen is “week to week” with an injury, Indiana head coach Teri Moren said Wednesday night.

The sophomore forward missed the Hoosiers’ last two games — a loss to Iowa State University on Nov. 30 and a win over Western Michigan University on Wednesday. Against Iowa State, Socka-Nguemen sat on the Indiana bench wearing street clothes.

However, against Western Michigan, she sported a boot on her right foot and mainly used a scooter to get around.

“Right now, ‘Z’ is week to week,” Moren said. “So, we’ll just keep going day by day with her, try our best to try to keep her in shape.”

Socka-Nguemen, who transferred to Indiana from UCLA during the offseason, has averaged 13 points and nine rebounds for the Hoosiers this season, recording three double-doubles in seven games.

Junior forward Edessa Noyan has slotted into the starting lineup in place of Socka-Nguemen. Noyan recorded eight points and eight rebounds against Iowa State and seven points and 11 rebounds against Western Michigan.

“The thing we miss most about ‘Z’ is her energy,” Moren said. “‘Z’ is an energy giver. She plays with great passion, and that’s what we miss is just her energy out there, amongst her athleticism and her ability to guard and be in those coverages.”
