Local live music this week: bar shows and Battle of the Bands

Bar shows galore this week. Escape the cold, and possibly snow, with these live music performances.  

Monday 

American saxophonist Joshua Redman will play at 7 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater . Tickets for the show cost between $35 to $54 depending on seats at the theater. Redman is a Grammy-nominated saxophonist and composer. He also has a new album which he will play songs from called “Words Fall Short.” 

Wednesday 

Indie rock band Six Foot Blonde, who started out in Bloomington, will play at The Bluebird for audiences 21 and over. The concert will start at 10 p.m. and tickets cost $14.25.  

Thursday 

Jazz at the Vault will return to The Vault Pub in the Indiana Memorial Union. The free weekly event will last from 5:30-7:30 p.m. 

Texas-born singer-songwriter Kolby Cooper will play at The Bluebird starting at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $27.46, and the venue is restricted to people 21 and over. Cooper plays a blend of country, grunge, pop-rock and 90s music.  

Jesse James Deconto of the Pinkerton Raid and Nicholas Graham Hall will play at Blockhouse Bar, a 21-plus venue, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets for the shows costs $10. Both artists play folk-style music. 

Friday 

Live @ the Vault will return with Alec McLaren, a musician who typically plays folk-rock music. The event is free at The Vault Pub in the IMU and will last from 7-9 p.m. 

Chicago-based band Rod Tuffcurls & the Bench Press will play at The Bluebird. The 21-plus show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets cost $20.72. The band plays a large repertoire of music, typically pop or rock.  

Songwriters Bob Schneider and Rhett Miller will unite at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater to bring their music to the stage. The show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets cost from $32 to $52 depending on seat selection. They both play a blend of genres mixing country, folk, rock and bluegrass among others.  

Saturday 

Cover band Jukebox Luke will play at The Bluebird starting at 9 p.m. Tickets for the show cost $14.25, and the venue is restricted to people age 21 and over.   

Bloomington Delta Music Club's Battle of the Bands will include five different randomly-assigned bands playing different genres, and the club’s executive team will vote on a winner of the battle.
