Indiana volleyball’s senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles and senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum were both selected in the 2025 Major League Volleyball Draft on Monday. Alonso-Corcelles was selected in the second round by the Grand Rapids Rise, while Tatum was taken in the fourth round by the Columbus Fury.
While 11 other Hoosier graduates have gone on to play professional volleyball, Alonso-Corcelles and Tatum were the first players in program history to be selected in the MLV Draft.
Indiana, Wisconsin and Nebraska were the only Big Ten programs to have multiple players selected in the 2025 draft. In total, 10 Big Ten players were picked.
Alonso-Corcelles and Tatum have been key pieces to the Hoosiers’ historic 2025 season. After its win over Rutgers on Thursday, Indiana tallied its 22nd overall win and 13th conference win of the season. Both marks set program records since the NCAA adopted volleyball in 1981, and there are still two more regular season matches remaining. Indiana rose to No. 15 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released Monday, which marked the highest place in program history. The Hoosiers are looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
Tatum transferred to Indiana from the University of Cincinnati after her freshman season with the Bearcats. In her three seasons with Indiana, Tatum has recorded 916 total kills in 89 matches played. She’s averaged 3.41 points per set in her time with the Hoosiers.
Alonso-Corcelles, who has played with the Hoosiers for four seasons, has recorded the most Big Ten wins by a player in program history. She currently has 1,330 kills, which ranks in the top 10 for Indiana all time. The Madrid, Spain, native averages 3.51 points per set throughout her time with Indiana.
The 2026 MLV season will begin in early January. Columbus’ first match is scheduled for Jan. 8, while Grand Rapids’ first contest of the season is set for Jan. 9.
