Coming off an impressive 23-point win over power conference opponent Marquette University on Sunday, Indiana men’s basketball continued to flex its offensive might. The Hoosiers took down the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee 101-70 on Tuesday inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
Fifth-year senior guard Lamar Wilkerson’s 24 points led Indiana in scoring. Wilkerson knocked down four 3-pointers in a 15 point first half to help build a lead in the opening frame.
While redshirt senior forward Tucker DeVries had a relatively quiet night on the offensive end, Indiana found production elsewhere. Sixth-year senior guard Tayton Conerway had a season-high 21 points, along with six assists and two steals.
After missing the Hoosiers’ first two games, junior guard Nick Dorn made his Indiana debut against Milwaukee to extend the Indiana rotation to nine for the first time this season. Checking in with 10:49 on the clock in the first half, the Elon transfer made his first shot — a long two — before subbing out with two fouls in two minutes.
Wilkerson got the scoring started for Indiana in the first minute of the game at the free throw line, and an 8-0 Indiana run right before the under-12 media timeout had the Hoosiers up 19-8.
In the first half, Indiana shot 60% from the field, hitting nine of its 14 attempts from 3-point range. The Hoosiers scored 50 points in a half for the third time this season and took a 51-39 lead into the break.
The acrobatic shot making of Milwaukee redshirt senior guard Amar Augillard kept the Panthers in the game. Augillard made two off balance 3-pointers in the first half to keep Milwaukee in striking distance.
In the second half, the Indiana offense continued to pour it on. Wilkerson kept orchestrating the offense, slashing and getting to the free throw line with ease. He ended the night five for eight from the line.
Senior forward Reed Bailey added to the Hoosiers’ big scoring night with 14 points, five assists and five rebounds. Despite largely controlling the game, Indiana only outrebounded Milwaukee by four, and the Hoosiers trailed the Panthers on the glass for much of the game.
As the Hoosiers kept scoring, Milwaukee’s shooting began to disappear. The Panthers didn’t hit a three in the second half after knocking down five in the first half. By the under eight timeout, Indiana had built a 77-58 lead.
Two late second-half 3-pointers from DeVries helped seal another dominant Indiana victory as the Hoosiers rolled to a 31-point win.
Indiana will look to improve to 4-0 against the University of the Incarnate Word at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 16 inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Coverage of the game will be available on Big Ten Network.
