Coming off a bye week, Indiana football stayed at No. 2 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday on ESPN. The Hoosiers have slotted in at No. 2 in all four of the CFP committees' rankings so far.
If the season ended today, the Hoosiers would receive a first round bye, before taking on the winner of the matchup between The University of Alabama and the University of Mississippi in the quarterfinals.
The top three seeds remained unchanged for the fourth consecutive week. Ohio State kept its No. 1 ranking following its 42-9 victory over Rutgers on Saturday. Texas A&M University stayed undefeated and maintained its No. 3 spot after a dominant 48-0 victory against Samford University.
Meanwhile, the University of Georgia notched the No. 4 slot for a second straight week, which also grants the Bulldogs a first round bye if the season ended today. Georgia defeated the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 35-3 over the weekend.
Oregon, the Hoosiers highest ranked opponent through 11 games, secured a 42-27 victory over then-No. 16 USC on Saturday. This win moved the Ducks up one spot to the No. 6 seed.
Following its bye week, Indiana returns to action for its final regular season matchup against Purdue on Friday in West Lafayette. With a victory, the undefeated Hoosiers would clinch a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship game. Kickoff against Purdue is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, and the game will air on NBC.
