Darn Good Soup, which once operated in Bloomington but closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, will begin taking orders again on Thursday, featuring the original recipes from former owner Nels Boerner.
According to the official Darn Goods Soup website, the soups will be available for purchase at the Chocolate Moose located at 405 S. Walnut St. and will be open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The menu is available on the business’s official website, which includes vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
There will be eight-10 soups rotated on the menu, with the first soups being broccoli cheddar, chicken tortilla, chili, corn chowder, lentil spinach, potato poblano, sweet potato coconut and West African chicken peanut. These soups will be available through Nov. 30.
After former Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced in March 2020 restaurants could only provide carryout services during the pandemic, the original store at 107 N. College Ave. in the city’s downtown square shut down indefinitely after nine years due to financial uncertainty for the business.
In a statement on their website, current owners Pat and Jamie East said they're partnering with Chocolate Moose so they can focus entirely on the recipes, the food and the customer experience instead of renting a kitchen and building an operation from scratch.
The website said soup sales are high in the winter while ice cream sales dip, and the opposite is true in the summer, so sharing labor and space with Chocolate Moose could bring traffic year-round.
