The Bloomington Police Department is investigating an incident where a man reportedly brandished a gun in front of Upstairs Pub on Kirkwood Avenue, according to a statement from Captain Ryan Pedigo.

Police responded at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday to the area around Upstairs Pub after receiving a report of a man brandishing a handgun.

The man, who was reportedly with two women, then ran toward the area around Nick’s English Hut, according to the statement.

BPD officers reviewed security camera footage from Upstairs Pub, which showed an altercation in the middle of Kirkwood Avenue in front of the pub. The video showed the man holding an item in his hand “consistent with a firearm,” according to the statement.

Two Upstairs Pub employees who were working the door of the bar told police they saw what they thought was a fight about to take place in the street. The two employees walked toward the group, observing a man drop the firearm in the street, which led to ammunition falling out of the gun.

The man then ran west on Kirkwood after picking up the firearm. BPD officers located a live round of ammunition and broken plastic in the area.

Investigators are now attempting to identify the individuals involved.
