Freshman Caleb Schnarr and sophomore Taneesh Sirivolu represented Indiana at the Indy at Forest Hills on Friday, an individual event for collegiate golfers in Richmond, Indiana.

The Hoosiers, neither of whom are ranked nationally, competed against other nationally ranked golfers, including Miami senior Michael Weber, who was the highest-ranked player among the 40 who competed Friday, and ranked 483rd nationally. Weber was underwhelming, shooting 2-over-par, and finishing 17th.

Schnarr competed in the Hoosier’s first event of the season, the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, North Carolina, and finished 44th, with a score of 8 over par. Friday was Sirvolu’s first appearance of the season for Indiana.

The two-round event, hosted by Miami University, featured representatives from 11 schools from Indiana and Ohio, including Ball State University, Butler University, the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University.

Sirivolu finished ninth with a 1-under-par 139 over two rounds, which included eight birdies. Schnarr ended his tournament in 15th, shooting 1-over-par 141, with seven birdies, and one double bogey.

Going into his 16th hole, Sirvolu found himself tied for fourth place, but two pars and a bogey squashed any hopes of finishing in the top five.

Sirviolu also finished ninth at last year’s event, where he shot 2 over par for the tournament after scores of 3 over par and 1 under par in the first and second rounds, respectively.

University of Toledo sophomore Julius Lange left Richmond as the day’s top finisher. After shooting 4-under in his first round, and 2-under in his second, he ended with a score of 6-under-par 134.

Despite ending his first round with a 3-over-par score, Xavier junior AJ Wilhelm was able to save his day, shooting 5 under par in the second round, and finishing with a 2-under-par fifth-place finish.

Indiana will resume team play from Sept. 29-30 at the Windon Memorial Classic in Lake Forest, Illinois.
