Indiana football senior wide receiver Makai Jackson is no longer on the Hoosiers’ roster, a source confirmed to the Indiana Daily Student on Monday.
Jackson caught three passes for 15 yards across four games this season. He didn’t play in Indiana’s 20-15 victory over Iowa on Sept. 27 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa.
Jackson was the first of three receivers to transfer to Indiana last offseason, committing to the Hoosiers in late December. Michigan transfer Tyler Morris announced he would join Jackson in early January; however, he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in spring practice.
Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti also added University of California, Berkeley, senior receiver Jonathan Brady in the spring portal window, around when Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in the spring that limited his time on the field with his new squad.
Across the Hoosiers’ first five games, Jackson has struggled asserting himself in a stout receiving corps led by sixth-year senior E.J. Williams Jr., senior Elijah Sarratt and redshirt junior Omar Cooper Jr.
Jackson played one season in 2022 with Sarratt at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
Indiana’s pass catchers have caught 99 passes for 1,352 yards passing and 19 touchdowns as the Hoosiers sit at 5-0 ahead of their Oct. 11 matchup with No. 2 Oregon. Jackson will now presumably redshirt to preserve a season of eligibility and enter the transfer portal to play elsewhere in 2026.
