Following a 4-1 opening weekend in Miami, Indiana softball will head to Mexico for the 2025 Puerto Vallarta Challenge as it is set to compete at Nancy Almaraz Field.
Beginning in 2015, the challenge was the first Division I softball event held outside of the United States and established itself as one of the premier tournaments in collegiate softball. This weekend marks the first time Indiana will participate in the event as it looks to make its third consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Indiana takes the field in session two of the tournament, alongside North Dakota State University, Illinois State University, Boise State University, Brigham Young University and Florida International University. This session is slated to be played from Thursday through Saturday.
Tournament play for Indiana starts at 8 p.m. Thursday when they matchup against North Dakota State. The Hoosiers will be the second leg of a double header for the Bison, after they take on Boise State at 2 p.m. Thursday.
On the second day of the tournament, the Hoosiers take part in a doubleheader. The Cream and Crimson’s first matchup against Illinois State will begin at 4 p.m. Friday. The Redbirds struggled throughout opening weekend, finishing 1-4 at the University of South Florida Tournament.
In the second game of the double header, Indiana competes against Boise State at 7 p.m. Friday. The Broncos matched the Hoosiers’ opening weekend success, finishing the NorCal Kickoff with a 4-1 record.
To conclude the challenge, Indiana faces a tough challenge against BYU. The Cougars got off to a hot start in the La Jolla Invitational, playing their way to a 3-0 record on opening weekend. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
All Puerto Vallarta games can be streamed on FloSoftball.
