Breaking News Filler

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch until 6 a.m. Wednesday for Monroe County and other counties in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio.

A few tornadoes are likely, and some may be intense, according to the NWS. Scattered windgusts up to 70 mph and large hail are also possible.

“A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area,” the NWS report said. “Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for  threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.”

The NWS forecasts possible severe showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night and early Wednesday as well. Some thunder, rain and snow is possible Wednesday.

The NWS previously issued a weather advisory for Monroe County for Tuesday, warning abrupt temperature changes could cause severe weather.

According to the Red Cross, people should take shelter in a basement or a small windowless room in the event of a tornado.

Monroe County residents can monitor the forecast through local weather channels and NWS live trackers.
