Two men were killed in separate car accidents last week in Monroe County, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

The men were identified as Virgil Hupp of Bloomington and Larry Martindale of Solsberry, Indiana.

The first accident occurred Sept. 19. Deputies responded to the area of 3330 N. Brummetts Creek Rd. for a report of an inverted single vehicle accident with injury.

Monroe County Sheriff Office said Virgil Hupp, the sole passenger, was traveling north on N. Brummetts Creek Rd. when, for an unknown reason, he traveled about 25 yards off the roadway and collided with a tree. The vehicle then flipped.

Hupp died at the scene.

The second accident occurred Sept. 22. Deputies responded to the area of 9779 W SR 45 for a report of a person injured by a tractor.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office learned Larry Martindale was riding on a tractor with Justin Ratliff, who was driving, to see a property that needed to be mowed. Ratliff hit a large ditch and the tractor threw Martindale off. Martindale landed in a ditch and the tractor drove over him.

Martindale later died from his injuries.

The Sheriff's office said the second accident is still under investigation.
