Blue hour sets in as fans enter Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May, a former Indiana student manager, has led the Owls into the Elite Eight.

Both Indiana men’s and women’s basketball teams were knocked out in the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, but the Hoosiers will still have representation in the Elite Eight this weekend.

Florida Atlantic University head coach Dusty May, who was a student manager at Indiana from 1996 to 2000 under Bob Knight, has led his team to its first-ever Elite Eight appearance.

No. 9 seed Florida Atlantic defeated the No. 4 seed University of Tennessee, 62-55, to set up a contest with No. 3 seed Kansas State University on Saturday.

May graduated from Eastern Greene High School in Greene County, Indiana, in 1995.

From 2007 to 2009, May served as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham under former Indiana head coach Mike Davis.

May took over at Florida Atlantic in 2018, his first career head coaching job. He’s coached the team to a 100-59 record over five seasons, including a 34-3 record this year.
