UPDATE: Monday suspect found to be unarmed, no threat to IU campus

Breaking News Filler

After students were notified Monday night of a suspect originally deemed to be a threat to IU’s campus, police determined the man was unarmed.

After the IU Police Department received multiple 911 calls, an IU Notify alert was issued around 9:50 p.m. out of an abundance of caution, IU Public Safety Information Officer Hannah Skibba said. The subject appeared to be experiencing homelessness, and resources were offered to him.

The man was reported near the intersection of Third Street and Fess Avenue on the southern edge of IU’s campus, according to the IU Notify Emergency Alert. IUPD said the subject was described as a white man wearing a dark hoodie.

The intersection of Third Street and Fess Avenue is close to Swain East and the Maurer School of Law. Those not on campus were asked to stay away. The alert advised residents to lock doors and seek shelter at the closest location.
