Indiana women’s tennis falls 4-1 to Yale in New Haven

Indiana women’s tennis lost to Yale University Sunday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut. 

Only two doubles matches were played and the teams split the wins. At No. 2 Yale won 7-5 against Indiana’s redshirt junior Mila Mejic and graduate student Lauren Lemonds. Indiana’s No. 1 doubles, sophomore Lara Schneider and graduate student Saby Nihalani, won 7-5.  

Since Yale forfeited at No. 3, Hoosiers’ redshirt junior Alexandra Staiculescu and redshirt junior Xiaowei "Rose" Hu were awarded the victory, and Indiana got the points for doubles. 

After being ahead 1-0 overall, Hoosiers lost four matches straight for the singles points. No. 5 Lemonds lost 4-6 and 2-6 and No. 4 Mejic lost 4-6 and 1-6. Then Schneider lost 2-6 and 4-6 at No. 1 and Staiculescu lost 3-6 and 4-6 at No. 3. 

Nihalani was tied 1-1 (2-6, 6-1) at No. 2 and Hu was ahead 1-0 (6-0, 4-5) at No. 6 but both matches ended unfinished. 

The Hoosiers host Xavier University at 11 a.m. Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
