A man was arrested in connection to the New Year’s Day stabbing of a 32-year-old man in the 200 block of South College Avenue in Bloomington.

Ryan Johnson, 36, was arrested Jan. 7 and charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and battery with a deadly weapon, according to a release from Bloomington Police Department Captain Ryan Pedigo. All charges are felonies.

The victim encountered Johnson around 10 p.m. Dec. 31, 2022, while walking to a bar, according to the release. The victim asked Johnson if he could touch his hair, and did so after Johnson said no. The two shared a verbal exchange before the victim apologized, and they both left.

The man started feeling pain in his abdomen, and realized he had been stabbed, according to the release. He walked towards College Avenue and asked a bystander to call 911. The bystander reported that he had seen a man matching Johnson’s description holding a knife.
