Indiana men’s track and field freshman Sean Mockler finished his rookie season at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday in Eugene, Oregon. Mockler placed 16th overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 67.20 meters and earned All-American Second Team honors for his performance.

Mockler, who holds Indiana’s school record in the hammer throw with 68.68 meters, was a bronze medalist at the Big Ten Championships and secured the 12th and final spot during the NCAA East Preliminary round to earn a spot in the championships.

Despite fouling on his first throw, Mockler progressed from 65.42 meters to 67.20 meters on his final two attempts.

Southeast Missouri State University senior Logan Blomquist won the event with a heave of 73.37 meters on his sixth and final throw.

Mockler, a native of Two-Mile Borris, Ireland, was crowned the Irish National Champion in the hammer throw in 2021.
