IU graduate workers vote to continue strike into third week

The Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition-United Electrical Workers voted to extend their strike for union recognition Tuesday, with 95.7% of their membership voting to continue.

The IGWC-UE has been on strike since April 13 and the extension of the strike will now take them into the third week of picketing. Out of the 906 voters, 867 graduate students voted yes and 39 voted no. The vote will ensure the strike lasts until May 4.

The support to continue the strike was slightly less than the previous week’s vote, which passed by 97.3%.

The IGWC-UE will vote again on May 3. It will be the last vote during the 2021-2022 regular school year.
