Cate Charron named fall 2022 editor-in-chief

Cate Charron, fall 2022 IDS editor-in-chief.

The IU Student Media Publications Board named junior Cate Charron the fall 2022 editor-in-chief of the Indiana Daily Student on Friday, March 25.

Charron is from Livonia, Michigan and graduated from Divine Child High School. She joined the IDS staff her freshman year as a news reporter. Charron has since worked as an enterprise reporter, news editor, managing and enterprise editor and managing editor of digital.

Currently, Charron is an intern at the Indianapolis Star covering Sunday breaking news shifts on crime, trending news and events.

As editor-in-chief, Charron plans to expand IDS coverage by increasing staff size, improving community relations and incorporating multimedia efforts into reporting.

“News can be spread through a multitude of platforms, so we must get to know our audience and who is most likely to use each of which,” Charron said in her application. “We can and must cater our distribution of news to reach readers where they are.”

Charron said as a leader, she wants to continue the newsroom’s long history of excellence.

“I want us to continue making history, continue telling hard-hitting, important stories and continue being the dominant news source for IU students and Bloomington residents,” Charron said.
