The U.S. News & World Report listed IU Health Bloomington and IU Health Paoli on its inaugural ranking of Best Hospitals for Maternity in Indiana, according to an IU Health press release.

“Our Bloomington and Paoli maternity teams put their hearts into providing the best care for patients and ensuring they are as safe and comfortable as possible,” IU Health South Central Region President Brian Shockney said in the release. “It is wonderful to see them recognized for their efforts.”

The Best Hospitals for Maternity ranking evaluates hospitals only on uncomplicated low-risk pregnancies and judges based on the accuracy of delivery date scheduling, C-section rates in low-risk pregnancies, newborn complications, breastfeeding rates and the option for vaginal birth following a C-section, according to the U.S. News website.

IU Health Bloomington and IU Health Paoli, along with the Saint Mary Medical Center-Hobart, are the only hospitals in Indiana to be rated as high performing in maternity care. In addition to maternity care, IU Health Bloomington also ranked highly for treatment of heart attacks, kidney failures and strokes.

The magazine historically ranks hospitals on several specialties, including cancer treatment, cardiology and heart surgery and more. The most recent ranking has added gynecology, which includes maternity care.
