18-year-old Bloomington woman fatally shot while driving early Thursday morning

An 18-year-old Bloomington woman was shot and killed around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, according to a Bloomington Police Department press release. The suspect, a 16-year-old male, was taken into custody late Thursday morning.

Officers found Keisha Huntington shot in the driver's seat of a gray Honda, causing her to crash into a parked car. The car accident was reported in front of La Bonita Restaurant and Market, located at 1709 N. College Ave.

Huntington was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Officers were responding to reports of gunshots at Northcrest Apartments in the 1400 block of N. Woodburn Ave. when they received word of the nearby car accident, according to the press release.

BPD believes Huntington and another passenger in the car attempted to escape after the suspect tried to rob them in the Northcrest Apartments parking lot, according to the press release. The 16-year-old then apparently shot Huntington as she drove away.

BPD located the suspect around 11:15 a.m. Thursday in an apartment on the 900 block of N. Rogers St., according to the release.

A BPD negotiator called the suspect and convinced him to exit the apartment where he was taken into custody, according to the press release. He will be transported to the Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village in Vincennes, IN, until formally charged by the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.
