Bloomington Police Department officers, along with the Bloomington Fire Department, responded to a fire at an apartment building in the 500 block of South Basswood Drive on Thursday around 9:38 p.m., Captain Ryan Pedigo said.
They found a deceased woman inside one of the apartments. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Teresa Michael.
Michael died of strangulation, according to a press release from Monroe County coroner. The BPD did not release any additional information as this is an ongoing investigation.
The press release denied the rumor that Michael’s legs were cut off, stating this information was falsely reported by people not involved with the investigation. Michael sustained burn injuries because of the fire.
