Instant Recap: No. 9 IU suffers first loss of the season against No. 3 Ohio State

FINAL: Ohio State 42, IU 35

4:39: Ohio State goes for it on fourth and one inside the red zone, but fails convert. IU will take over on downs.

TOUCHDOWN: Penix fires a deep pass down the right sideline for Fryfogle, and he makes the catch through contact and races for a 56-yard score. The score is 42-35, and Fryfogle now has seven catches, 223 yards and three touchdowns with 10:26 remaining in the fourth quarter.

TOUCHDOWN: IU goes for it on fourth and 10 in the red zone and Penix connects with Ellis for a touchdown. The Hoosiers trail 42-28 with 12:26 left to play in the game.

Fourth Quarter

TOUCHDOWN: Penix throws his first interception on the day. It was intercepted by Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade, who takes it back the other way for a 36-yard touchdownd. The Buckeyes have a 42-21 lead with 49 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

1:04: Ohio State misses a field goal and the IU offense takes over on downs at its own 27-yard line.

TOUCHDOWN: After forcing Ohio State to punt, Penix finds Fryfogle in the end zone for his second score of the afternoon. The 33-yard score makes it a 35-21 game with 5:14 left to play in the third quarter.

INTERCEPTION: Fields throws his third interception of the game on third down, but Jamar Johnson fumbles the ball on the return. A huge play for the IU defense turns into a new set of downs for Ohio State.

TOUCHDOWN: IU responds with a 63-yard score. Penix connects with Fryfogle, and he wins a foot race to the goal line. The Hoosiers cut into the Buckeye's lead and now trail 35-14.

TOUCHDOWN: On the first drive of the second half, Ohio State drives 75 yards down the field and scores in six plays. Fields finds Wilson for a nine-yard touchdown, their second scoring connection of the game. The Buckeyes take a commanding 35-7 lead with 12:10 left to play in the third quarter.

Third Quarter

HALFTIME: Ohio State leads IU 28-7. The Buckeyes gained 389 yards of total offense in the first half.

TOUCHDOWN: Ohio State orchestrates a nine-play, 93-yard drive to take a 28-7 lead that was capped off by a nine-yard run by Fields. IU kneels the ball to run out the remaining 17 seconds in the half.

FUMBLE: After racing down the sideline for a 51-yard reception, IU sophomore David Ellis fumbles inside the 10-yard line. Ohio State recovers at its own seven-yard line.

TOUCHDOWN: Ohio State continues to gash the IU defense with the run game. Fields scrambled for a 30-yard gain to set up a two-yard score by Teague. The Buckeyes lead 21-7 and have 168 rush yards so far in the first half.

TOUCHDOWN: Ohio State scores on the ground as sophomore running back Master Teague III breaks away for a 41-yard touchdown. The Buckeyes take a 14-7 lead with 8:57 left to play in the second quarter.

TOUCHDOWN: IU finds the end zone as Penix throws to senior wide receiver Whop Philyor for a four-yard score. The Hoosiers tie the game at 7-7 with 11:03 left to play in the first half.

11:57: Penix fires deep down the field to sophomore wide receiver Miles Marshall for a 68-yard game. IU has a first down inside the five-yard line.

Second Quarter

INTERCEPTION: Fields is pressured in the backfield and throws an ill-advised pass in an attempt to avoid a sack. The ball was intended for junior wide reciever Chris Olave, but the pass bobbled around multiple defenders and evenutally landed in the hands of IU senior defensive lineman Jerome Johnson.

The Hoosiers take over on offense with 2:54 left to play in the first quarter.

9:22: On fourth down with two yards to go, the Hoosiers go for it in the Buckeyes' territory. IU sophomore quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw to senior wide reciever Ty Fryfogle who was wide open on the play. But Fryfogle took his eyes off the ball and dropped it.

Ohio State takes over at its own 36 yard line.

INTERCEPTION: IU junior defensive back Jamar Johnson takes the ball away. It's the first interception Fields has thrown all season.

TOUCHDOWN: On the very next play, fields goes back to Wilson in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown. The Buckeyes take a quick 7-0 lead with 12:32 left to play in the first quarter.

12:53: After and IU punt, Ohio State junior quarterback Justin Fields finds sophomore wide reciver Garrett Wilson over the middle for a 65-yard completion.

Kickoff: IU receives the kickoff, and Ohio State kicks the ball through the end zone. The Hoosiers will start on offense with the ball on the 25-yard line.
