UPDATE: Security camera video shows fight between IU fraternity members

Update 5:05 p.m.

Alpha Epsilon Pi spokesperson Jonathan Pierce has confirmed members Alpha Epsilon Pi were involved in the fight.

IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said Pi Kappa Phi has been placed on cease and desist by the IU Office of Student Conduct. The Interfraternity Council also announced the suspension of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity Sunday.

Pierce said the organization is aware of the video and knows who the Alpha Epsilon Pi members are in the video.

Alpha Epsilon Pi is a traditionally Jewish fraternity. The IFC's statement reads the council is investigating "the disturbing increase of alleged anti-Semitic incidents."

Pi Kappa Phi headquarters did not respond to requests for comment.

Original story

A video of an alleged assault on campus began circulating Saturday. The security camera footage shows a group of around 11 men attacking one or two other men outside a house.

A former member of the Interfraternity Council executive board said he could not confirm the situation, but believed the fight broke out between members of fraternities Pi Kappa Phi and Alpha Epsilon Pi after members of Alpha Epsilon Pi tried to enter a party at the Pi Kappa Phi house. This member also said IFC is working to collect all details before taking any action.

Men can be heard in the video speaking about the fight saying, “He’s a fucking douche,” and “Fuck that kid,” during the fight.

IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said IU Police Department and the Dean of Students are both aware of the video and situation, but could not confirm the identities of people seen in the video. Pi Kappa Phi headquarters, Alpha Epsilon Pi headquarters and the IU chapters of both could not be reached for comment.

Correction: A previous version of this article misstated who the Alpha Epsilon Pi spokesperson confirmed was involved. Jonathan Pierce only confirmed the involvement of Alpha Epsilon Pi in the altercation. The IDS regrets this error.
