The IU field hockey team lost their season-opening match to No. 12 University of Louisville 5-0.

After a goal from Cardinals junior Bethany Russ in the fourth minute of the game, Louisville never looked back. Russ ended the game with her first career hat-trick, scoring three goals on eight shots.

The Cardinals outshot the Hoosiers 21-2 and drew nine corners to one for IU. Juniors Mercedes Pastor and Madison Walsh added goals for Louisville to cement the victory.

IU junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias ended the game with nine saves on the day. Sophomore Hailey Couch and senior Ciara Girouard both had shots on goal for IU. The Hoosiers will look to produce more offensive opportunities going into their three-game home stand and into the gauntlet of conference play.

The Hoosiers look to rebound against the Drexel University Dragons for the home opener at noon Sunday at the IU Field Hockey Complex.
