String of bike thefts on campus leads to IUPD investigation

An IU public safety advisory email was sent Wednesday in response to a string of bike thefts on campus.

According to the IU Police Department crime logs, the thefts were near Myers Hall, Herman B Wells Library, Read Center, Spruce Hall and Memorial Hall. The incidents started occurring Aug. 14.

Students should lock their bicycles with at least one U-style lock in a well-lit and safe area, according to the email. The email also suggests to record the make, model, and serial number of the bicycle.

IUPD is asking people to report suspicious activity around bicycle racks. IUPD currently has no suspect information.
