An IU student was injured and another man was killed after being shot Thursday night during a robbery at Knights Landing Apartments on North Walnut Street.

Skylar Maupin, 21, was shot in the upper torso multiple times and died at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. The IU student, also taken to the hospital, was shot in the shoulder but is in stable condition.

Jamarius Turnage, 25, fired a handgun at both victims before leaving the apartment, BPD Lt. Ryan Pedigo said. Once outside, Cleodis Collins, 24, took the gun and shot multiple times into the front window of the apartment.

Bloomington Police Department responded around 9:15 p.m. to multiple calls about gunshots.

Pedigo said the two alleged robbers were traveling from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Bloomington to buy marijuana but decided to rob the victims of it instead.

Turnage and Collins fled the scene in a red 2013 Chevrolet before police arrived.

The student who was shot knew one of the men and told police he was probably driving north.

A deputy with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office followed a vehicle matching the description traveling north on Interstate 69. The vehicle was found in a private driveway near Martinsville, Indiana. The deputy could see the handgun on the floor of the vehicle.

BPD traveled to Martinsville and arrested the two suspects.

A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, but it is unknown at this time if they found stolen items or marijuana inside.

Both suspects were charged with murder and robbery. Collins was also charged with attempted murder.
