The Five Guys on Kirkwood Avenue will have its grand opening at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Located at 425 E. Kirkwood Ave., this will be the second Bloomington location for the burger joint. The other is on College Mall Road in front of Kroger.
Originally, the plan was to open mid-November, but franchiser Paul Gillard said his company, Gill Guys Group, waited because of Thanksgiving break since students, who he expects to be the majority of the customers, left town for the week.
“It didn’t make sense to open for three days and then have everybody leave,” he said.
This past weekend, the store started training the employees, whom Gillard said are mostly students.
Gillard said a difference with this opening is it is the first time they have opened a Five Guys in the same city.
“With the buzz we’ve heard on the streets and the sidewalks and more and more people are asking when is the exact day, we think this Tuesday, Wednesday is going to be big, and this weekend is going to be gigantic,” Gillard said.
