The Big Ten Conference announced that Lexa Barrott and Kyle Burks were named IU’s Sportsmanship Award honorees after the conclusion of the Big Ten Cross-Country Championships.
All students chosen for this award must distinguish themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior inside the boundaries of their sport, while also demonstrating good citizenship outside the setting of competition. These honorees must also be in good academic standing with their school.
Barrott helped the IU women’s team to a fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Oct. 28 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She finished 39th overall in the women’s 6k and was the fifth Hoosier to cross the finish line in a time of 21:11.6.
Burks placed 49th with a time of 24:46.9 in the Big Ten Championships. As a team, the Hoosiers placed third in the meet, losing only to Wisconsin and Purdue.
IU cross-country will see the field again on Friday, Nov. 9 when the team competes in the Great Lakes NCAA Regional in Terre Haute, Indiana.
