Senior runner named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

Junior Katherine Receveur celebrates as she crosses the finish line at the Big Ten Cross-Country Championship on Oct. 29 at the IU Championship Cross Country Course. IU will compete in the Big Ten Cross-Country Championship this weekend in Nebraska.

Senior Katherine Receveur was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week after winning at Iona’s Meet of Champions last Friday, per an IU Athletics release Wednesday.

Receveur collects the fourth Athlete of the Week award of her career.

The reigning Big Ten champion led the IU women’s cross country team to their second win of the season as the Hoosiers scored 30 points and won a tiebreaker with Columbia University. Receveur made her debut and took first place in the 5K with the time of 17:30.8, finishing ten seconds ahead of the second finisher.

The IU cross-country team will travel to Madison, Wisconsin, on Sept. 28 to compete in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational where the men’s and women’s teams will compete in two races.

The meet will start with the women’s B 6K at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s B 8K at 11:40 a.m. The Hoosiers’ top runners will participate in the championship races to follow.

Receveur and the women’s team will be set to run the women’s championship 6K, scheduled for 12:20 p.m. The men’s championship 8K will start at 1 p.m. to close out the meet.

This marks the first meet of the season against Big Ten competition. The Wisconsin women’s team is currently ranked No. 7 in the country while the men’s team is ranked No. 9.
