IU Health Center, CAPS appoint new directors

Denise Hayes & Beth Rupp

Indiana University Health Center and Counseling and Psychological Services have selected new program directors who started June 19, according to information released by IU.

Denise Hayes has been selected as the new director of CAPS.

Hayes previously worked at CAPS as a staff psychologist and has worked at other universities focusing on student mental health. Hayes earned her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from IU.

According to the IU Health Center biography, Hayes “will focus on prevention, treatment and maintenance for mental health on the Bloomington campus.” She also plans to offer students help through different outreach programs, workshops and clinical services.

Beth Rupp began as the new medical director at the IU Health Center in June.

Rupp began as a physician at the IU Health Center in 2006, and has worked at various universities and medical centers throughout the country.

“My role as medical director is to supervise the Health Center medical services and staff consisting of nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians in order to deliver high quality, low-cost care to the students of IU Bloomington,” Rupp said.

In addition to her role as medical director, Rupp is also on multiple IUHC committees. She collaborates with the Monroe County Health Department, the Indiana State Department of Health, and University Environmental Health and Safety, among other services.

As both IUHC and CAPS provide similar services, Hayes and Rupp will work closely together to improve the health of students on campus.
