Bloomington man arrested for choking hospital security guard

Bloomington Police Department arrested a man at IU Health Bloomington Hospital on Wednesday after he choked a hospital security guard.

Fred Reed, 52, came into the emergency department of the hospital asking for treatment, then asked workers if he could leave. A security guard told Reed he could leave at any time, and Reed yelled at the man. Reed choked the security guard, leaving red marks on his neck and scratches on his right bicep.

Once officers arrived, Reed was already handcuffed and detained by the security guard. He told officers that he blacked out during the encounter. Reed was charged with battery and strangulation.
