For the second time this season, freshman catcher Maddie Westmoreland and junior pitcher Tara Trainer picked up Big Ten Weekly Honors for IU softball. Westmoreland was named Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week while Trainer took home Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the week.

This was after their performances this past weekend when the Hoosiers swept Penn State to capture their fourth Big Ten sweep of the season.

Westmoreland continued her consistency at the plate this season after batting .857 with nine RBI, six hits, three runs scored and two home runs against Penn State. In the first game, she went 3-3 with a career-high five RBIs, including a three-run homer.

Both players earned the same honors on March 26 after sweeping Ohio State to begin conference play.

Trainer had her best weekend of the season in the circle against Penn State. She went 3-1 this week with a 0.82 ERA. She had 21 strikeouts and made three starts with 17 innings pitched among the four games. In the trio of games against Penn State, she shut out the Nittany Lions in both of her starts and threw the second no-hitter of her career on Sunday.

The Hoosiers will travel to Purdue for a doubleheader Wednesday before hosting No. 14 Michigan this weekend.
