Anthony’s Pets, Sonic burglarized

Anthony’s Pets on East Third Street

An employee of Anthony’s Pets was arrested Monday on accusations he’s been stealing money from the store’s cash register after hours.

The store’s owner suspected the employee after two other employees who were eating at Applebee's reported seeing the suspect in the store’s back parking lot March 31 after close.

To catch the suspect, the store’s owner told police he installed surveillance cameras without notifying his employees.

The footage showed the man entering the store April 9 and not taking anything, and then entering the store again Sunday and removing $85.

Anthony’s Pets’ owner called police Sunday and the suspect was arrested Monday.

Sonic on South Walnut Street

The manager of the Sonic on South Walnut Street called police around 7:45 a.m. Sunday after opening the store to report a burglary.

She told officers the front door of the business was unlocked when she arrived around 7 a.m., and money was missing from the cash register. Not all of the money was missing, and police declined to say how much was gone.

Officers said a lock on the northern front door of the Sonic was scratched but there were no signs of forced entry.

This incident is under investigation.
