A man is dead in what police are calling an attempted murder-suicide

A Bloomington man was pronounced dead Monday morning after what police are calling an attempted murder-suicide.

The alleged murder attempt was not successful. The man’s girlfriend is in stable condition with a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.

Antoine Hill, 31, was found lying dead on his front porch around 3 a.m. Monday. His 25-year-old girlfriend lay injured nearby.

Bloomington Police Department Lt. John Kovach said Hill shot at his girlfriend and then shot and killed himself after a domestic dispute.

Neighbors called police after saying they heard yelling and gunshots. They told police it was not uncommon to hear yelling from the apartment on South Basswood Drive.

The couple’s 4-year-old and 7-year-old children were asleep inside the apartment during the incident. The Department of Child Services is involved, Kovach said.

Both adults were transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Hill was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police did not report finding any guns in the home aside from the .40 caliber handgun used in the incident.
