Women's March on Washington - Indiana to host commemoration of last year's Washington demonstration

Moira Kehoe, an IU freshman, holds a sign during the Women's March on Jan. 20, 2017, in Indianapolis. There will be an anniversary march focused on voter registration Jan. 20 at the American Legion Mall in Indianapolis.

Indiana's chapter of nonprofit organization Women’s March on Washington will host an event focused on voter registration Jan. 20 to commemorate the anniversary of the march on Washington, D.C.

The event, announced in a release Monday, will begin at 12 p.m. with community speakers at the American Legion Mall in Indianapolis. The group will then march through the downtown area before stopping at the Indiana State House.

The event's headline speakers, who have not been announced, will address the crowd at the end of the march. Throughout the event volunteers will register voters, according to the release. The event is scheduled to end at 4 p.m.

"Indiana has one of the lowest records of voter turnout in the country,"  WMWIN communications director Savannah Pearlman said in the release. "To hear our voice, lawmakers need to see our vote."
